EVIAN-LES-BAINS
Indian golfer Aditi Ashok made a solid start at the 2026 Amundi Evian Championship. She carded a one-under-par 70 during the opening round of the prestigious women’s Major tournament. Playing at the scenic Evian Resort Golf Club, the 28-year-old put together a balanced performance to place herself tied for 35th.
Ashok, a five-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, is making her ninth appearance at this event. Looking to improve on her past record of just one top-25 finish here, she kept herself safely inside the projected weekend cut line. Starting on the front nine, her round included four birdies and three bogeys. She bounced back from a shaky mid-round stretch with consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th holes to finish the day under par.
Despite her steady performance, Ashok trails the tournament leader, Aki Iwai of Japan, by seven shots. The 24-year-old Iwai stormed into an early two-stroke lead with a flawless, bogey-free eight-under-par 63. Demonstrating spectacular ball-striking, Iwai picked up three birdies on the front nine before firing four more on the back nine, capping off her brilliant day with a final birdie on the 18th hole.
Meanwhile, local favorite Perrine Delacour gave the French crowd plenty to cheer about. Delacour secured sole possession of second place by shooting a career-best Major opening round of six-under-par 65, highlighted by an eagle on the 15th.
A talented five-player group sits just behind in a tie for third at five-under-par 66. This chasing pack includes England’s Charley Hull, who surged late with a spectacular eagle on her final hole, and Sweden’s Maja Stark, who carded a clean, bogey-free round.
With a world-class field competing in France, the pressure will intensify during the second round. Only the top 65 players and ties will survive the Friday cut to advance to the weekend. Ashok will look to find more birdies to climb the leaderboard and stay in contention.
