Yeshwantpur MLA S T Somashekar on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy, accusing him of being jealous over D K Shivakumar becoming Karnataka’s Chief Minister and questioning his contribution to the state.
Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony for women who participated in a Rangoli competition organised as part of International Women’s Day celebrations at Dodda Bidarakallu in Yeshwantpur Assembly constituency, Somashekar said Kumaraswamy had started criticising Shivakumar even before the latter completed a month in office.
Claiming that Kumaraswamy was uncomfortable with Shivakumar’s elevation, Somashekar alleged that the JD(S) leader wanted power only for himself. He also accused Kumaraswamy of having wronged senior BJP leader B. S. Yediyurappa in the past and questioned why he was targeting the new Chief Minister.
Referring to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Somashekar alleged that JD(S) workers had circulated a video of notebooks being carried by an ASHA worker and portrayed it in a misleading manner. He said the notebooks were meant for distribution to poor schoolchildren to support their education and described the incident as an example of the opposition’s “narrow-mindedness.”
The MLA also questioned Kumaraswamy’s achievements as a Union Cabinet minister, asking what tangible contribution he had made to Karnataka. Somashekar said he had faced the electorate multiple times in Yeshwantpur, winning four major elections despite losing two, and credited the people of the constituency for his political journey.
Reaffirming his commitment to public service, Somashekar said he would continue to work as a servant of the people to repay the faith reposed in him by voters.
Youth leader Nishant Somashekar, Block President Sridhar, Women’s Block President Suma Janardhan, Prasad Kumar, Prakash, ward president Bale Muniraju, Travels Manjunath and other local leaders were present at the event.
