The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) will establish its first overseas campus in Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in the institute’s global expansion and India’s growing educational engagement with Southeast Asia.

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement during his visit to Jakarta, IIM-B said the proposed IIMB (Singhasari) campus would be launched in two phases. The first phase will focus on short-duration executive education programmes for senior executives and professionals, while the second phase will introduce full-fledged degree programmes.

According to the institute, the executive courses will cover core management disciplines alongside emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, global supply chains, climate and sustainability, and healthcare management.

The Indonesia campus will also provide learners access to IIM-B’s extensive repository of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), complementing classroom instruction. IIM-B serves as the nodal agency for management education under the Government of India’s SWAYAM online learning platform.

Beyond academics, the campus aims to strengthen research collaborations, faculty development, consulting projects, student exchanges, policy partnerships and industry linkages across Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region.

“IIMB acknowledges the support extended by the Governments of India and Indonesia in facilitating the establishment of the campus,” the institute said in a statement.

The announcement follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s joint media interaction with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, where he said the new campus would benefit students and professionals across the ASEAN region by expanding access to quality management education.

The campus will be established at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) under a memorandum of understanding signed on July 6 between IIM-B and the Singhasari SEZ at Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.

The agreement was signed by Director-in-Charge Prof U. Dinesh Kumar and Prof Jitamitra Desai on behalf of IIM-B.

Prof Dinesh Kumar said the partnership would nurture a new generation of business leaders capable of leading organisations in Indonesia as well as multinational corporations across the world.

He noted that the initiative aligns with IIM-B’s vision of expanding its global footprint while contributing to leadership development in emerging economies and strengthening educational cooperation between India and ASEAN nations.
