Former minister and Belagavi Rural MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar distributed compensation cheques to the families of farmers who died by suicide and those who lost their lives accidentally in various villages of the Belagavi Rural Assembly constituency on Tuesday. She also met the bereaved family members and offered them emotional support during their difficult time.
The programme was organised with the objective of ensuring that government financial assistance reaches affected families without delay. Hebbalkar personally handed over the compensation cheques to the beneficiaries and interacted with family members, assuring them of continued support from the government.
A compensation amount of ₹2 lakh was provided to the family of Ashok Maruti Uchagaonkar from Hindalga village, who died in an accidental incident. The family of farmer Neelakanth Siddappa Yallur from Aralikatti village received a ₹5 lakh compensation cheque following his death by suicide. Similarly, a ₹5 lakh relief cheque was handed over to the family of farmer Eranagouda Basanagouda Hadimani from Hirebagewadi village after his death by suicide.
Speaking on the occasion, Hebbalkar said that no financial assistance could compensate for the loss of a family’s main earning member. However, she said it was the responsibility of the government and elected representatives to stand with families during such painful circumstances and provide necessary support.
“During times of hardship, families should feel that the government is standing with them. Continuous efforts are being made to ensure that distressed farmer families receive required assistance and access to government welfare schemes,” she said.
Hebbalkar stated that the state government has been giving priority to farmer welfare and implementing several programmes aimed at improving the economic and social security of farming communities. She also instructed officials to ensure that no eligible farmer family facing difficulties is deprived of government benefits.
Local leaders, villagers, and officials from concerned departments were present during the cheque distribution programme. The initiative was aimed at extending immediate assistance and reassurance to families affected by tragic losses.
