UIDAI launches free mobile email update feature

NEW DELHI

Over 2.5 lakh citizens successfully updated their linked email addresses within just two days of a new mobile application launch. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) introduced this feature to allow users to update their personal credentials directly from their smartphones, removing the hassle of visiting physical enrollment centers.

To encourage widespread adoption, the government has made this email update feature entirely free of charge for the next six months, starting July 1, 2026. This initiative aligns with the country’s ongoing digital transformation goals to make essential public services more accessible to everyone.

Linking an email profile to the national identity database provides a crucial security boost. Citizens will now receive real-time email alerts whenever an authentication request is made, creating an extra layer of defense against identity theft. The newly upgraded application serves as a one-stop platform for multiple identity services. Beyond email changes, the app has already helped over 40 lakh people update their mobile numbers and another 10 lakh residents modify their home addresses.

Authorities are strongly urging citizens to take advantage of this complimentary window. The official application is now available for download across both Android and iOS devices, allowing users to keep their information accurate with just a few clicks.
