MeitY Secretary urges 15 % for IT Cybersecurity budget

MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan urged governments to allocate fifteen percent of IT budgets to cybersecurity for stronger digital defense.

NEW DELHI

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary, S. Krishnan, stated that governments must allocate at least 15 percent of their IT budgets to cybersecurity. He emphasized that digital safety cannot be an afterthought and must be built directly into systems.

Speaking at a cybersecurity summit organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Krishnan explained that organizations must remain constantly alert against digital threats. He urged businesses to invest more resources into safety, support local security products, and quickly report any data breaches to official agencies. According to Krishnan, sharing this vital information is necessary to build a strong collective defense across the nation.

Other defense experts at the event discussed how rapid technological advancements are creating new global security challenges. Officials noted that the rise of Artificial General Intelligence is changing the geopolitical landscape, making it crucial for the nation to develop its own advanced AI models. Additionally, experts warned that upcoming quantum computing technology will eventually make current digital security systems useless, meaning new protective measures must become a top priority.

The conference also highlighted how the fast growth of 5G and 6G networks has given hackers more opportunities to target both large corporations and small businesses. The important event brought together top policymakers and tech experts to find better ways to protect India’s digital future against these evolving global threats.
