Julian Nagelsmann resigns as Germany’s Head Coach

BERLIN

Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as the head coach of Germany’s football team following their shocking early exit from the 2026 World Cup. The German Football Association pressured the coach to step down after a painful defeat against Paraguay in the Round of 32.

The famous world champions were knocked out in Boston after a dramatic penalty shootout. The intense match ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time, but Paraguay held their nerve to win the shootout 4-3. This devastating loss shocked fans worldwide, as Germany historically possessed an incredibly strong record in penalty shootouts.

Following the tournament disaster, soccer directors held emergency talks to analyze what went wrong. Leaders made it clear that the national team could not simply return to regular business after such a humiliating failure. Facing a certain dismissal, Nagelsmann chose to walk away early, which allows him to collect a large compensation payout. His original contract was supposed to run until the 2028 European Championship.

Now, all eyes are turning to Jurgen Klopp as the absolute favorite to take over the empty hot seat. The highly popular former Liverpool boss is currently working as a television pundit and has expressed great interest in reviving Germany’s soccer fortunes. Although Klopp is under contract as Red Bull’s global head of football, his deal includes a special release clause that allows him to accept the German national job immediately. Officials plan to start formal job talks with Klopp very soon now.
