Pralhad Joshi seeks probe into KPSC chief allegations

Joshi demands probe into alleged KPSC chief misuse of power, writes to CM and Governor over irregularities

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has written to the Chief Minister of Karnataka and the Governor, demanding a high-level investigation into serious allegations of misuse of power and nepotism against Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) Chairman Shivashankarappa S. Sahukaar.

Joshi alleged that irregularities have been reported in the recruitment process of Industrial Extension Officers, where the KPSC Secretary had already submitted a detailed report pointing to possible procedural lapses and misconduct. He has urged authorities to ensure a transparent and impartial probe into the matter.

In his letter, the minister raised concerns over allegations that the KPSC chairman’s daughters were among the candidates in the recruitment process. He further claimed that the chairman not only participated in the selection procedures but also signed the final selection proceedings, raising questions about violation of principles of natural justice.

Joshi also flagged concerns regarding alleged irregularities in the application of reservation norms. He said there are doubts about whether eligibility criteria, including income limits for reservation benefits, were properly followed. He alleged that false information may have been used to secure reservation advantages, undermining fairness in the recruitment process.

Calling the issue a serious setback to merit-based recruitment, the minister said such actions damage the credibility of constitutional institutions like the KPSC. He stressed that thousands of job aspirants depend on fair and transparent examinations, and any compromise in the system would amount to injustice to deserving candidates.

Joshi has requested both the Chief Minister and the Governor to initiate a comprehensive and independent investigation into the allegations. He said ensuring accountability is essential to restore public confidence in the state’s recruitment processes.

The issue has sparked political debate, with calls growing for strict action and institutional reforms to safeguard the integrity of public service recruitment in Karnataka.
