MILAN
Gresini Racing officially announced a major team revamp for the 2027 MotoGP season. The Ducati-backed squad has signed rising Moto2 star Daniel Holgado alongside former world champion Joan Mir. The incoming duo will replace Alex Marquez, who is moving to KTM, and Fermin Aldeguer, who is joining VR46 Ducati.
The 21-year-old Holgado will step up to the premier class after an impressive stint in Moto2. The talented Spaniard joined the Aspar team in 2025, securing two victories and earning the Rookie of the Year title. He has continued his strong form this season, capturing another race win and currently occupying sixth place in the championship standings.
Meanwhile, Joan Mir will leave Honda at the end of the year to join Gresini. The 2020 MotoGP world champion will ride a factory-spec Ducati Desmosedici starting in 2027. The move gives Mir a prime opportunity to revive his career and unlock his maximum potential on a highly competitive machine.
Team owner Nadia Padovani expressed immense excitement over the new roster. She noted that the team has been tracking Holgado’s progress for a long time and is thrilled to guide him through his rookie year. She added that Mir’s incredible championship record speaks for itself.
According to Padovani, the team aims to provide a stable, supportive environment for both riders as one begins his MotoGP journey and the other looks to rediscover his winning form. Fans are eagerly anticipating how this mix of youth and experience will perform on the track.
