Harry Kane chases Cristiano Ronaldo’s tournament record

ATLANTA

England Captain Harry Kane has written his name further into soccer history after a stunning performance saved his team in a dramatic World Cup match against DR Congo.

The Three Lions were struggling early after Brian Cipenka scored for DR Congo in the seventh minute. However, Kane showed his world-class talent when it mattered most. He scored two brilliant goals late in the game, hitting the net in the 75th and 86th minutes, to secure a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory.

With these two goals, Kane entered an elite club alongside Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. They are now the only two players ever to score 20 or more goals across both the World Cup and the Euros. Kane now has 20 major tournament goals, trailing just behind Ronaldo’s record of 24.

The England striker also passed Brazilian legend Pele’s historic World Cup tally by reaching 13 goals. Additionally, Kane has now scored 10 knockout goals in major tournaments since 2020, proving he is one of the most reliable big-game players of this decade. He easily outperforms other European stars like Kylian Mbappe, who has seven knockout goals in that same period.

Thanks to Kane’s heroics, England avoids a shock exit and moves on to the round of 16. The team will now travel to Mexico for a highly anticipated clash against the host nation. That tough knockout match is scheduled to take place at the famous Azteca Stadium this coming Monday.
