NEW DELHI
As England prepares for the upcoming T20I series against India, former spinner Graeme Swann has issued a stern warning to the English bowlers regarding the challenge of facing teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Swann believes the young left-hander is currently one of the most difficult batters to contain in world cricket, noting he has successfully navigated every test faced thus far.
While acknowledging that video analysis is common in modern sports, Swann admitted that preparing for a talent like Sooryavanshi is remarkably difficult. “He is still new to international cricket, but he has already played two IPL seasons,” Swann noted. This means there is plenty of footage, yet the former spinner pointed out that no bowler has truly discovered a reliable method to dismiss him consistently.
However, Swann sees a glimmer of hope in England’s pace spearhead, Jofra Archer. Given their time together during the IPL, Archer holds a unique edge. “He has seen Sooryavanshi from the dugout, bowled to him in the nets, and watched him closely,” said Swann. He believes Archer’s firsthand experience, combined with his natural express pace, might provide the best opportunity to unsettle the young prodigy.
Despite this potential advantage, Swann remains realistic about the task ahead. He emphasized that regardless of the bowler’s reputation or the game plan formulated, Sooryavanshi has consistently found answers. England enters this series knowing that while Archer may have the insight, containing this fearless rising star remains a massive hurdle for the entire team.
