Radar cameras reduce highway speeding across in Udupi

Udupi

Speed radar cameras installed at six key highway locations in Udupi have significantly reduced speeding and other traffic violations. Since becoming operational on May 21, the cameras initially detected up to 5,300 speeding cases daily, but the figure has fallen to around 1,700 following increased public awareness. Although nearly 1.19 lakh violations were recorded, only verified cases resulted in challans, with 335 issued over the past month. Police said the initiative aims to improve voluntary compliance rather than punish every offender. Authorities plan to install additional radar cameras across the district to further enhance road safety.
