The Maharashtra FDA has suspended the licenses of six Mumbai eateries, including Nariman Point’s Flint & Waarsa, following health violations like pest infestations and expired food.
MUMBAI
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the business licenses of six restaurants and eateries following a rigorous statewide enforcement drive. Inspections conducted between June 26 and June 28 revealed severe health and safety violations, ranging from unhygienic conditions to the storage of expired food items.
Among the establishments facing action is Flint & Waarsa in Nariman Point, where officials discovered misbranded products. Following an inspection on June 27, authorities seized stock and destroyed over 16,000 rupees worth of expired food. Other affected venues are located in Borivali, Santacruz, Andheri, Bandra, and Bhandup.
The raids painted a concerning picture of kitchen hygiene at these locations. Reports highlighted the presence of pests like cockroaches and rats, alongside improper raw food storage and failing refrigeration systems. Furthermore, several businesses were found to be operating without mandatory documentation, and staff members had not undergone required health check-ups. The FDA also noted that these establishments failed to provide proper mechanisms for handling customer complaints. This crackdown was part of a broader safety initiative that saw 31 inspections across the state. In related operations, the FDA seized banned items like gutkha and pan masala worth nearly 35 lakh rupees, resulting in 19 arrests and the seizure of three vehicles. The department has vowed to maintain this strict enforcement to ensure all food establishments meet safety standards, promising continued legal action against those who put public health at risk.
