Somanna advised leaders to focus on governance, saying leadership should reflect service, responsibility, and citizens’ needs
DAVANAGERE
Union Minister V. Somanna said leaders should focus on understanding people’s problems and working for public welfare instead of making personal claims about leadership positions. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Davanagere on Saturday.
Somanna said it was not appropriate for anyone to insist on becoming the Chief Minister of the state on their own. He advised Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to concentrate on administration and address the needs of citizens. According to him, leadership should be based on service and responsibility.
Speaking about recent political developments, Somanna said senior party leaders had taken note of cross-voting issues. He added that national leaders had reviewed the matter and a fact-finding committee led by C.T. Ravi had submitted an interim report. The party, he said, would take suitable action after considering all aspects.
On the Bidadi Township proposal, Somanna said development projects should benefit local people and farmers. He explained that earlier township projects were carried out while protecting the interests of farmers. He said authorities should consider public opinion before moving ahead with such plans.
Somanna suggested that if people do not support a project, alternative locations can be explored. He urged leaders to avoid unnecessary disputes and focus on development activities. He also said that discussions between leaders would help find better solutions for the public.
Former minister Murugesh Nirani, who was also present, spoke about internal party matters. He said some issues had been closed after discussions and a committee had been formed to examine concerns. He expressed confidence that future decisions would be taken properly.
Nirani also commented on the issue of RSS registration and said leaders should focus on the development needs of Kalyan Karnataka. He suggested understanding the organisation’s work before making statements. Regarding Bidadi land acquisition, Somanna said projects should move forward only with farmers’ consent. He stated that voluntary participation was important and compulsory acquisition should be avoided
