NEW DELHI
As the tennis world turns its eyes toward Wimbledon, Indian icon Vijay Amritraj has expressed deep admiration for Novak Djokovic’s enduring hunger. Despite having already achieved more than any player in the history of the sport, the 39-year-old Serbian remains relentlessly driven to push the boundaries of greatness as he eyes a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title.
“What motivates this guy to go after everything after all that he’s won?” Amritraj wondered during a recent media event. “He has won major titles, and nobody is going to catch him, certainly not in my lifetime. I believe he is pursuing number 25 simply because of his pure passion, his desire, and the hard work he is still willing to put in.”
Amritraj also touched on the shifting landscape of men’s tennis. He tipped World No. 1 Jannik Sinner to remain a dominant force, noting the Italian’s proven ability to bounce back from setbacks. Furthermore, he highlighted the men’s draw as being wide open, with young star Carlos Alcaraz expected to return to contention and newly-crowned French Open champion Alexander Zverev arriving in London with fresh confidence.
According to Amritraj, Zverev’s recent breakthrough in Paris, where he finally captured his first major title after defeating Flavio Cobolli, has likely lifted a significant weight off the German’s shoulders, making him a serious threat at the All England Club. As the sport continues to evolve, Amritraj remains captivated by how legends like Djokovic continue to find new reasons to compete.
