The Koppal district unit of the Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association organised its annual sports meet as part of Press Day celebrations at the district stadium. The event highlighted the importance of sports in improving physical and mental health.
District Working Journalists’ Association Vice President Raju B.R., who presided over the programme, said every person should spend at least one hour daily on sports activities. He stated that regular participation in games helps people stay fit and develop a healthy lifestyle.
Raju also said that taking part in competitions is more important than winning or losing. He encouraged journalists and the public to build interest in sports for better health and happiness.
Senior journalist M. Sadhik Ali, who inaugurated the event, said good health is the biggest wealth for every person. He added that sports play an important role in creating a healthy society and everyone should develop a passion for physical activities.
Chief guest and senior journalist N.M. Doddamani said journalists work continuously and should participate in sports events to maintain their well-being. He explained that sports provide peace, relaxation, and joy to the mind.
The programme began with a welcome speech by District General Secretary Y. Nagaraj. Several association members and sports department officials attended the event.
After the inauguration, a cricket match was played between the DVG Cricket Team and Kuvempu Cricket Team. The DVG team won the match. Shuttle badminton, chess, running, and walking competitions were also conducted.
A large number of journalists from Koppal centre and nearby areas participated with enthusiasm. The successful sports meet encouraged unity, fitness, and friendship among media professionals.
