Gangapurpet prepares for grand Durgadevi festival

GADAG

Gangapurpet in Gadag district is ready to witness the grand Sri Durgadevi Jatrotsava, a major religious and cultural celebration that reflects the traditions and unity of the region. The festival, organised by the Sri Durgadevi Jatra Mahotsava Samiti, will be held from June 28 to July 13 with various spiritual and cultural programmes.

Religious festivals in India have always played an important role in bringing people together. These celebrations go beyond worship and create a sense of friendship, harmony, and togetherness among communities. The upcoming Jatrotsava in Gangapurpet is expected to become a memorable event for devotees from different places.

The main attraction of this year’s festival is the newly created Maharatha, a grand chariot donated by devotees. The beautifully designed structure has detailed artistic work, strong wheels, and traditional decorations that showcase the skills of craftsmen. Devotees believe the new chariot represents collective faith and devotion.

The inauguration of the Maharatha will take place on July 2 between 8:01 am and 9:05 am with special rituals. The grand Rathotsava of Goddess Sri Durgadevi will be held on July 8 at 6:12 pm, where the deity will be taken through the streets amid thousands of devotees.

The festival will include several religious ceremonies, including special pujas, homas, and spiritual activities under the guidance of Vedamurthy Brahmashri Siddesh Sharma. Cultural events, devotional programmes, and awareness sessions will also be organised throughout the celebration.

Important events include the installation of the new silver idol, devotional music, dance performances, farmers’ awareness programmes, women’s conferences, folk arts, and traditional celebrations. A mass wedding programme and Maha Annasantarpane will also be held on July 10 for devotees.

The final days of the festival will feature cultural programmes, comedy performances, and a social drama before the celebrations conclude with Mangalotsava on July 13.

Temple Trust members and the Jatra Mahotsava Committee have been working continuously to make the event successful. Organisers have invited devotees from across the country to participate in the festival and experience the spiritual atmosphere of Sri Durgadevi Jatrotsava.

The celebration is expected to strengthen the message of devotion, peace, and social unity in Gadag district.
