Yakshagana Kalaranga hands over its 99th free house to a meritorious student from an economically weaker section
MANGALURU
Renowned cultural and social organization Yakshagana Kalaranga has successfully handed over its 99th free house to a deserving student in Udupi district. This latest donation is part of the NGO’s ongoing humanitarian initiative aimed at providing proper shelter for meritorious students coming from economically weaker sections of society.
The newly constructed house, located at Moodukukkude near Harady in the Brahmavar taluk, was built at a total cost of ₹7 lakh. It was officially gifted to the family of Harshith, a hardworking local second-year pre-university college student. Funding for this specific construction project was generously sponsored by B. Narahari, the senior general manager at Manipal Technologies Ltd. alongside his brothers, in loving memory of their parents, Baikady Krishnaiah and Yashodadevi.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Gautam Pai, executive president of Manipal Technologies Ltd., praised Yakshagana Kalaranga for its extraordinary service toward community welfare and the preservation of traditional theatre.
While fundamentally dedicated to promoting the traditional folk art form of Yakshagana, the organization has also transformed regional education through its impactful Vidya Poshak initiative launched in 2005. This broad scheme supports students with vital textbooks, scholarships, book banks, free coaching, and medical facilities. To qualify for the highly beneficial free housing program, applicants must be active, meritorious students already registered under the group’s Vidya Poshak academic scheme.
