The Gadag District Police Department organized the Drug-Free Gadag Walkathon 2026, creating awareness among citizens about the dangers of drug abuse and the need for a healthier society. IGP Sandeep Patil of Belagavi North Zone said that building a drug-free society is possible only when police, public and young people work together.

Speaking at the event held at Gandhi Circle, Patil said many youths have dreams of becoming doctors, engineers, police officers and sportspersons but addictions can destroy their future. He urged students to follow the message of saying no to drugs and avoid harmful habits.

The awareness program was conducted ahead of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26. Patil explained that strict action would be taken against drug sellers and users under the law. He said reducing demand for drugs would help stop illegal sales in society.

The district police reported strong action against drug activities during the last year with several cases registered and accused arrested. Officials also highlighted the use of strict measures against repeated offenders and encouraged people to inform authorities about drug-related activities.

SP Rohan Jagadish said drug addiction affects individuals families and the younger generation. He warned students about peer pressure and said even one attempt can lead to serious addiction. He advised youth to choose positive activities like yoga, meditation sports and reading to build a better life.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Duragesh K.R. said legal action alone cannot remove the problem and awareness among people is equally important. He appreciated the efforts of police officials and organizations supporting the campaign.

Medical experts at the event said drug dependence requires counseling and proper treatment along with emotional support. They advised young people to stay away from tobacco, alcohol and other harmful substances.

The walkathon began from Gandhi Circle and passed through major roads of Gadag city with students, athletes and officials participating. Participants carried messages promoting a drug-free community and spread awareness among the public.
