Bidar

Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar Khandre conducted a detailed review of development works in Bidar, focusing on pressing concerns related to farmers, rural infrastructure, and law and order.

Speaking to reporters after the progress review meeting, the minister said the district is currently facing agricultural challenges due to inadequate rainfall, which has delayed sowing activities in several areas. He also noted that farmers are dealing with a shortage of fertilizers, and discussions are underway with officials to address supply gaps and mitigate the impact on the upcoming cultivation season.

Khandre emphasized that the purpose of his visit was primarily to assess development works and ensure that public welfare issues receive immediate attention. He urged officials and stakeholders to prioritize solutions that support rural communities and strengthen essential services.

On concerns surrounding the proposed Kaneri Sri programme, the minister stated that the government’s foremost responsibility is maintaining peace and law and order. He clarified that the issue is not about supporting or opposing any event, but about ensuring that the situation in the district remains stable. He added that a detailed report will be obtained from the district administration before any final decision is made.

Responding to criticism from former Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol, who alleged that the state government is financially weak, Khandre rejected the claim as politically motivated. He said the opposition is attempting to divert attention from its own shortcomings, while the government continues to implement welfare schemes and development programmes across Karnataka.

He also questioned the opposition’s silence on rising fuel, LPG, and fertilizer prices, stating that such issues directly impact farmers and ordinary citizens. Reiterating the government’s commitment, he said priority will be given to rainfall-related challenges, fertilizer availability, and accelerating ongoing development works in Bidar district.
