Hulimavu Lake development works came under review as Special Commissioner Sushma Godbole inspected the site, heard public grievances, and directed officials to accelerate STP construction, prevent sewage inflow, and install fencing.

Efforts to improve and protect Hulimavu Lake received fresh momentum after Special Commissioner Sushma Godbole of the Fire, Environment and Climate Change Division of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing development works at the lake on Friday.

During her visit, Godbole reviewed the progress of various restoration and infrastructure activities being undertaken around the lake. She also interacted with local residents and listened to their grievances and concerns regarding the works being carried out in the area.

A major focus of the inspection was the issue of sewage entering the lake, which has been a concern for residents and environmental stakeholders. To address the problem, Godbole directed officials of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to speed up the construction of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) associated with the lake project.

The Commissioner also instructed BWSSB officials to put in place suitable barriers and protective measures to ensure that sewage water does not enter the lake. The move is aimed at improving water quality and protecting the lake ecosystem from further pollution.Apart from sewage management, the inspection also focused on safeguarding the lake from future encroachments and improving public safety around the waterbody. Godbole directed officials to immediately install wire fencing around the lake boundary. According to officials, the fencing will help prevent illegal encroachment of lake land while also ensuring the safety of visitors and nearby residents.
