Sahith Theegala stayed in Canadian Open contention at 7-under despite slipping from the lead, trailing by three shots entering the weekend rounds.
ONTARIO
Indian-American golfer Sahith Theegala remains firmly in contention at the Canadian Open despite losing his opening-round lead. The talented athlete carded a 1-under 69 in the second round, reaching 7-under overall. He currently sits tied for 13th place, just three shots behind the tournament leader as the event heads into an exciting weekend.
After a brilliant first-round 64, Theegala faced tougher playing conditions. He started strong with early birdies on the third and seventh holes. However, bogeys on the 10th and 15th holes slowed his momentum. Showing great resilience, he hit a crucial birdie on the final hole to keep himself well within striking distance of the top spot.
Meanwhile, Canadian golfer Sudarshan Yellamaraju, who also has Indian roots, had an impressive day. He shot a 4-under 66 to climb to 5-under overall, safely securing his place for the weekend in 28th place.
Unfortunately, the news was not as good for Aaron Rai. The English golfer of Indian heritage narrowly missed the weekend cut by a single shot after hitting a 70, finishing at 1-under. Indo-Canadian qualifier Jeevan Sihota also missed the cut, finishing at 3-over par.
At the top of the leaderboard, American rookie Ben James snatched the lead with a flawless 7-under 63, moving to 10-under overall. Five players sit just one shot behind him. With Theegala only three strokes behind, the final rounds offer him a wonderful chance to fight for the title.
