A routine night shift turned into a frightening ordeal for a cab driver after four unidentified miscreants forcibly entered his vehicle, abducted him briefly, robbed his mobile phones and fled with his car in the early hours of June 1 in Electronics City.
The victim, identified as S. Manu, a resident of Kittaganahalli, had recently started working as a night-shift cab driver for employees of a tech company in the Konappana Agrahara area. He owns a Maruti Swift Dzire used for company transport duties.
According to his complaint, the incident occurred around 12.40 am near the HP Company gate in Electronics City. On the night of the incident, Manu had dropped a woman employee and a security guard near KR Pura bridge and was returning to the company premises for another pickup.
Feeling drowsy, he stopped near the company gate for a tea break. As he was about to resume duty, four men approached the vehicle claiming they urgently needed a ride. They allegedly forced their way inside the car, pushing out the security guard who was accompanying him.
Once inside, the miscreants took control of the vehicle and directed Manu to drive through multiple areas including Doddathoguru, Neeladri Nagar and different parts of Electronics City. During the journey, they reportedly threatened him with an iron rod.
One of the accused allegedly snatched both his mobile phones and demanded access to their passwords. The group also checked digital payment applications and forced him to reveal PIN codes. When they failed to find cash, they continued driving before finally ordering him to stop near Margondanahalli.
Manu managed to escape from the vehicle and ran to a nearby apartment complex, where he sought help from a security guard. He immediately informed his supervisor, who tracked the vehicle using its GPS system.
The cab was later traced moving towards Bommasandra Industrial Area. When Manu and his colleagues reached the location along with police, they found that the vehicle had been abandoned.
Officials said the suspects fled after realising they were being tracked. The car has since been recovered, but the accused remain at large, and investigations are underway to identify and arrest them.
