Mangaluru
Residents of Addoor Nooyi near Mangaluru say ongoing national highway expansion work has turned their lives into a daily struggle during the monsoon, with muddy runoff, waterlogging, and soil erosion repeatedly entering their homes. The issue is linked to construction along a nearby highway corridor managed under India’s national highway development network, where locals allege poor drainage planning and lack of retaining walls.
Two affected families report repeated flooding, contamination of their drinking water well, and damage to household property worth lakhs of rupees, while claiming they received minimal compensation despite repeated complaints to authorities. Residents also warn that loose soil dumped near homes is increasing landslide risk, and that an unstable electric pole adds further danger.
Locals have appealed for urgent intervention from district officials and highway authorities, saying the situation worsens each monsoon and has made their neighbourhood unsafe and unlivable until a permanent engineering solution is implemented.
