Former minister S. Madhu Bangarappa said that every voter in a democracy has the right to vote and it must be ensured for all eligible citizens. He was speaking to reporters in Shivamogga amid discussions on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the state.

He alleged that the BJP is using the SIR process for political purposes. Stressing the importance of democratic rights, he said that safeguarding the voting rights of every citizen is essential for a healthy democracy.

Responding to questions about cabinet expansion, Madhu Bangarappa said that the decision to include him in the cabinet lies with the party high command. He added that all leaders must abide by the high command’s decision. He also noted that decisions regarding the second list would be taken after the June 18 Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections.

Speaking about the education department, he said there has been no setback in its functioning. He highlighted that the department is currently under the Chief Minister and mentioned that the government’s initiative of providing free bus passes to students on the first day itself was a “revolutionary step.”

Addressing questions about the inauguration of public schools, he clarified that the programme has not been stopped and that 1,000 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) will be established. He said the inauguration event will be held in Shivamogga and pointed out that recent CET results reflect the improving quality of education in the state.

On reports of dissatisfaction among senior Congress leaders including G. Parameshwara and Satish Jarkiholi, he said such questions should be directed to them and added that the party high command would resolve any internal issues.

Commenting on the denial of a Rajya Sabha ticket to H.D. Deve Gowda, he called it a “great tragedy” and accused the BJP of betraying allies. He added that JD(S) leaders are now realizing the consequences of aligning with the BJP.
