Teen sensation receives family support as international cricket journey begins.

India’s newest cricket sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, will have the support of his parents during overseas assignments after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agreed to facilitate their travel alongside the 15-year-old prodigy.

The decision comes after Sooryavanshi received his maiden senior India call-up for the T20 tours of Ireland and England, as well as the upcoming Asian Games. The teenage opener earned national selection following a breathtaking IPL 2026 campaign in which he emerged as the tournament’s leading run-scorer.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board would make arrangements if the youngster’s parents wished to accompany him during the overseas tours. According to Saikia, Sooryavanshi’s father was set to travel to Sri Lanka, where the batter is currently representing the India A side in a tri-nation series.

The board believes the presence of his parents will provide valuable emotional support as the teenager adjusts to the demands of international cricket at a remarkably young age.

India, the reigning T20 world champions, will begin their Ireland tour with matches in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before heading to England for a five-match T20I series starting July 1. The Asian Games in Japan are scheduled for September and October.

Sooryavanshi’s rise has been one of the most remarkable stories in Indian cricket this year. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, the left-handed opener amassed 776 runs during IPL 2026, finishing with one century and five half-centuries. His exploits earned him the Orange Cap, the Most Valuable Player award and the Emerging Player honour.

His performances have also put him on course to become India’s youngest-ever international cricketer, surpassing the record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at 16 years and 205 days in 1989.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar acknowledged that Sooryavanshi’s performances left the selectors with little choice but to pick him, describing the youngster as a player who had effectively selected himself through sheer weight of runs.

With expectations soaring, India will hope their teenage star continues his meteoric rise on the international stage while enjoying the comfort of family support during the early stages of his career.
