Panel demands huge sum for Mangaluru drainage

MANGALURU

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly’s Public Enterprises Committee has requested twelve hundred fifty crore rupees to upgrade Mangaluru’s broken drainage network. Committee Chairman T. Raghumurthy announced that a detailed review report will be submitted during the July assembly session in Belagavi. The decision follows a citywide inspection, where lawmakers found half-finished drainage systems and untreated sewage spilling directly into local rivers. Local officials stated the current network was built decades ago for a tiny population. The newly proposed funding aims to completely overhaul sixty city wards to safely support eight lakh residents by 2046.
