MLA Suresh Shetty directs action against highway accidents

KAUP

Local BJP lawmaker Gurme Suresh Shetty, representing the Kaup constituency in Coastal Karnataka, convened a high-level emergency meeting with municipal and police officials to address the alarming surge in road accidents along the national highway stretch passing through Kaup municipal limits.

Expressing deep concern over the rising number of casualties, Shetty directed administrative and police authorities to take immediate corrective action on existing infrastructure gaps. He explicitly ordered the swift installation of scientific speed breakers on the service roads to curb speeding vehicles that endanger local commuters.

In addition to regulating speed, the MLA emphasized that fixing basic civic amenities is directly linked to public safety. He instructed municipal officials to immediately repair and restore non-functional streetlights along the busy highway corridor and completely overhaul the clogged local drainage system, which often causes waterlogging and visibility issues during heavy downpours.

The meeting featured a panel of senior police personnel and town municipality representatives seated at the discussion table, while heavily impacted local community members stood in the audience to voice their specific logistical grievances. This proactive intervention by the lawmaker underscores the growing public pressure on state authorities to prioritize preventive road-safety measures on this dangerous stretch of the national highway.
