Mangaluru
Authorities in Mangaluru have placed the district on high alert following a rise in Ebola virus cases reported in several African countries, especially the Democratic Republic of Congo. In response to directions issued by the Central Government, special health screening measures have been introduced at Mangaluru International Airport to prevent any possible spread of the deadly virus.
Health department officials are carrying out strict screening procedures for passengers arriving from or transiting through Ebola-affected nations, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. The intensified monitoring forms part of a nationwide surveillance drive aimed at detecting suspected cases at airports across India.
Authorities have instructed passengers who may have come into direct contact with blood, sweat, saliva, or other bodily fluids of infected or symptomatic individuals to immediately report to airport health officers before completing immigration formalities. Officials said self-reporting is essential to ensure early detection and containment.
To strengthen preparedness, the health department has increased the number of medical screening personnel at the airport. Isolation and quarantine facilities are also being readied in coastal Karnataka to handle any emergency situation if required.
Officials confirmed that no passengers from Ebola-affected countries have arrived at Mangaluru International Airport so far. However, precautionary measures remain in force as part of preventive public health protocols.
Authorities have identified Srinivas Port Hospital NMPA as the designated quarantine centre for suspected Ebola cases. Meanwhile, Wenlock District Hospital has been prepared as an isolation and treatment facility in case any patient requires specialised medical care.
Health officials urged the public not to panic and assured that all necessary preventive systems are in place. Continuous monitoring, airport surveillance, and coordination between health and airport authorities are being maintained to ensure public safety and rapid response if needed.
