The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying will organise the Regional Review Meeting: Northeastern Region 2026 in Aizawl, Mizoram, on May 25, with Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for fisheries projects worth approximately Rs 32.15 crore.

According to the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the regional review meeting will focus on evaluating the progress of ongoing schemes and discussing future strategies for the development of the fisheries, livestock, and dairy sectors in the Northeast.

The event will be chaired by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh and attended by Ministers of State SP Singh Baghel and George Kurian. Ministers responsible for fisheries and animal husbandry from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura are also expected to participate. Officials said the programme would be conducted in a hybrid format to allow wider participation from state governments and departmental representatives.

Senior officials from both the Centre and Northeastern states, including secretaries from the Department of Fisheries and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, will review the implementation of various government initiatives aimed at improving productivity, infrastructure, and livelihood opportunities in the region.

The ministry stated that the fisheries projects worth around Rs 32.15 crore are intended to encourage self-sustained growth by promoting modern aquaculture practices, strengthening market infrastructure, and providing support to local beneficiaries engaged in fisheries-related activities.

During the programme, the ministry will also launch a baseline village-level survey to expand the coverage of Multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies across the Northeastern states. Officials said the initiative is aimed at improving dairy sector participation and strengthening cooperative networks in rural areas.

As part of awareness and outreach activities, an educational film on African Swine Fever will be released along with a booklet titled Good Husbandry Practices in Pig Farming. These initiatives are expected to help farmers adopt better livestock management practices and improve disease prevention measures.

The event will also feature the launch of MULCO Cow Ghee by the Mizoram Milk Producers Co-operative Union Limited. In addition, authorities will inaugurate a Mizo Café and a Farmers Producer Organisation office-cum-sale outlet to support local agricultural and dairy products.

Certificates, including Fisheries Kisan Credit Cards, will be distributed to beneficiaries from various Northeastern states. The ministry will also recognise achievements in the sector by presenting awards to outstanding fisheries startups and fisheries cooperatives.

Officials said Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh is expected to interact directly with beneficiaries during the programme to better understand the challenges faced by fish farmers, dairy producers, and livestock owners in the region.
