FIEO expects Piyush Goyal’s Canada visit to boost India-Canada trade ties and advance CEPA talks, targeting stronger economic cooperation and market access growth.

The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has expressed optimism that Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s upcoming visit to Canada will significantly boost India-Canada economic relations and help advance negotiations on a proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

The visit, scheduled from May 25 to 27, comes at a crucial time as both countries aim to revive trade talks and work towards an ambitious target of reaching $50 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. Industry bodies believe the engagement could accelerate discussions on market access and investment opportunities.

FIEO president S.C. Ralhan said the visit reflects a strong commitment from both nations to rebuild economic ties and deepen cooperation in key sectors. These include agriculture, clean energy, critical minerals, food processing, education, and advanced manufacturing, all of which offer strong potential for mutual growth.

The exporters’ body noted that the proposed CEPA could create significant opportunities for Indian exporters, especially MSMEs, by easing trade procedures, improving market access, and encouraging technology-driven collaboration. It added that this could help Indian businesses integrate more effectively into global supply chains.

FIEO also highlighted that the timing of the visit is important, given ongoing global trade uncertainties caused by geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. Strengthening bilateral partnerships, it said, would help both countries build more resilient and diversified trade networks.

According to the organisation, increased ministerial exchanges and trade delegations in recent months signal positive momentum in bilateral engagement. Stakeholders from both sides are expected to continue discussions aimed at expanding commercial cooperation.

The federation expressed confidence that the visit will inject new energy into CEPA negotiations and pave the way for deeper economic integration between India and Canada in the coming years.
