Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar claimed he surrendered his son, Bandi Bhageerath, in a POCSO case, contradicting Cyberabad Police reports of a formal arrest
HYDERABAD
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has strongly claimed that he personally handed over his son, Bandi Bhageerath, to investigators following a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to reports, Kumar questioned if anyone had ever seen a father willfully surrendering his own child to cooperate with law enforcement.
However, the Minister’s claims clash directly with statements from the Cyberabad Police, who reported executing a formal arrest of Bhageerath on May 16 in Narsingi. Following his arrest, a local magistrate placed the youngster into 14 days of judicial custody. The legal action intensified after the Telangana High Court rejected Bhageerath’s request for temporary protection against arrest.
Visiting the state BJP headquarters for the first time since the scandal broke, Kumar was greeted warmly by enthusiastic party workers. When asked about opposition demands seeking his immediate dismissal from the Union Cabinet, the Minister launched a fierce counterattack against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Chandrashekar Rao. Kumar mocked the party’s current lack of representation in the Parliament, stating that KCR is merely spreading fake propaganda from his farmhouse.
Kumar also used the address to firmly dismiss rumors about him leaving the BJP to establish a separate political entity. Labeling himself a disciplined party soldier, the Minister stated that his loyalty remains completely unshaken. Meanwhile, the police probe continues under harsher POCSO sections after the minor victim alleged severe aggravated sexual assault.
