Drone narcotics delivery busted near border

JAMMU

In a major breakthrough against cross-border smuggling networks, the Jammu and Kashmir Police intercepted and seized a large heroin consignment weighing up to two kilograms in the Bishnah sector near the International Border with Pakistan.

Officials confirmed that the high-value contraband was dropped via a drone coming from across the border and was successfully seized before it could reach the intended recipients.

The successful operation followed a week of precise intelligence gathering. Dedicated police teams from the Jammu Headquarters Zone maintained a strict, round-the-clock vigil in the suspected border sectors to intercept the payload.

A specialized team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to the spot to conduct a detailed chemical analysis of the recovered narcotics and secure vital scientific evidence.

Authorities described the massive seizure as a severe blow to the regional narco-terrorism ecosystem. A comprehensive investigation has been launched to trace both the forward local buyers and backward international links of the Pakistan-based smuggling network.

This operational success coincides with the ongoing 100-day “Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan” anti-drug campaign launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 6. The administration has significantly intensified its crackdown on the drug trade, introducing harsh punitive measures for offenders. These punishments include the immediate seizure of properties built using drug funds, alongside the cancellation of crucial personal documentation such as driving licenses, passports, and national identity cards, as part of a total zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking.
