NEW DELHI
Telangana has requested an additional 5,000 crore rupees in financial help from the Central government.
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka presented this request directly to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during a high-level development meeting held in New Delhi.
The financial assistance has been sought under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI). Vikramarka updated the Union Minister on Telangana’s ongoing massive welfare programs and critical investments focused on healthcare, rural infrastructure, education, and human resource development.
A major talking point during the discussion was the state’s ambitious 30,000 crore rupees initiative called the Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS). To support this project, the Telangana delegation requested a special exemption from Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limits for all Externally Aided Projects approved by the Department of Economic Affairs.
Vikramarka explained that this mega education project is designed to transform schooling and nutritional standards for lakhs of children, effectively strengthening India’s future demographic dividend. Accompanying the Deputy Chief Minister, state Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao pointed out that the majority of Telangana’s population belongs to marginalized, socially, and educationally backward communities. According to official data, over 56 percent of the population belongs to Backward Classes, 17.43 percent to Scheduled Castes, and 10.45 percent to Scheduled Tribes, making immediate central funding absolutely essential for their long-term growth and upliftment.
