India-S. Korea forge historic cyber-defence alliance

SEOUL

In a major move to reshape Indo-Pacific security dynamics, India and the Republic of Korea (ROK) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The agreement specifically targets enhanced cooperation across the critical, fast-evolving frontiers of cybersecurity, intelligence operations, and military information sharing.

The milestone pact was signed during an official diplomatic visit to Seoul by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, alongside his South Korean counterpart, Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back.

Recognizing the rapidly morphing nature of modern warfare, the strategic alignment will focus on locking down vulnerable critical military infrastructure, neutralizing sophisticated digital threats, and establishing high-level institutional channels for real-time information exchange to maximize regional situational awareness.

Demonstrating deep bilateral respect before the high-profile ceremony, Defence Minister Singh visited the Seoul National Cemetery.

He laid a wreath and observed a solemn moment of silence to pay tribute to South Korean servicemen and women who lost their lives during the Korean War, reinforcing the historical and emotional foundation of the alliance.

The strategic stop in South Korea marks the successful second leg of Singh’s high-stakes, two-nation security tour, which initially featured bilateral talks in Vietnam from May 18 to 19.

Arriving in Seoul alongside Ambassador Gourangalal Das, Singh took to social media to summarize the vision behind the security blitz. He emphasized that the freshly minted MoU will directly pave the way for robust military-to-military engagement and defense industrial partnerships, laying down a united front to safeguard peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.
