Intro

The IPL 2026 playoff race has entered a dramatic final phase with seven teams fighting for just three remaining spots.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is heading into a tense finish to the league stage, with seven teams still in contention for the remaining three playoff berths. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have already secured their place in the top four following a crucial win over Punjab Kings, but the race behind them remains wide open and mathematically complex.

With only a few league matches left, the battle for qualification has intensified, and net run rate is expected to play a decisive role in several cases. Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, are in the strongest position among the chasing pack and need just one more win from their remaining fixtures to guarantee qualification. Even in the worst-case scenario, they are likely to stay ahead due to a healthy points buffer.

Sunrisers Hyderabad also remain well placed, with two wins potentially taking them to 18 points and a strong chance of a top-two finish. Even one win could be enough depending on other results, thanks to their superior net run rate.

Punjab Kings, however, face a must-win situation after their defeat to RCB. Their maximum possible tally is now limited, meaning they must win their final game and depend on multiple results going their way. Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings are in similar must-win scenarios, with both sides needing strong finishes to avoid elimination or a net run rate battle.

Delhi Capitals are in the most difficult position, with only one match remaining and a maximum of 14 points possible. Their qualification hopes depend heavily on other teams collapsing while also requiring a big win to overcome a poor net run rate.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders remain in contention but need consistent results in their final matches to stay alive in the race. With only Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants already eliminated, the final week promises high-stakes encounters, shifting equations, and possible last-over drama as teams fight for survival in IPL 2026.
