NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar said on Saturday that reunification of the two NCP factions would only be possible if the Ajit Pawar-led group shows a clear will to fight the BJP on issues related to common people. He added that talk of merger currently has no real substance and depends on political clarity within the party. Speaking about recent meetings held ahead of the NCP foundation day on June 10, he said discussions likely focused on organisational planning and internal strategy.
He also said that even if senior leaders meet Sharad Pawar, resentment among party workers will continue unless there is a firm stand against the BJP. Rohit Pawar also targeted NCP leader Sunil Shelke, saying he did not speak earlier when Ajit Pawar faced difficulties but now raises issues when others are in trouble. He questioned why cases or FIRs against Ajit Pawar are not being actively pursued with the central government despite being in power.
In a separate development, he also met Water Resources Department officials regarding the Janai-Shirsai Lift Irrigation Scheme and discussed farmers’ concerns about water supply, quotas and losses. He said farmers from Baramati and Purandar raised several issues and officials assured that their grievances would be addressed soon.
Party leaders said the issue of reunification remains uncertain and depends on future political decisions within both factions while discussions continue informally among senior members and workers who are watching developments closely as Maharashtra politics sees ongoing tension between alliance partners and opposition groups shaping the narrative ahead of key organisational events in the coming weeks in the state further ahead.
