Kavitha seeks minister’s removal over POCSO probe

Hyderabad

Telangana Rakshana Sena President K. Kavitha has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the removal of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the Union Council of Ministers following a police investigation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act involving his son.

In her letter, Kavitha said the continuation of the minister in a sensitive position could raise concerns regarding institutional propriety and public trust while the investigation is underway. She stated that the inquiry and legal proceedings should be conducted independently and transparently.

According to the letter, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on May 8 under provisions of the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the minister’s son, Bageerath, based on a complaint filed by the mother of a minor girl.

Kavitha argued that public confidence in the neutrality of the justice system must be protected and requested that Bandi Sanjay Kumar step down from the Ministry of Home Affairs until the investigation and trial are completed.

She further stated that such a move would reinforce confidence in the legal process and demonstrate that due process is being followed without political influence.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Ministry of Home Affairs or the office of the Union Minister regarding the letter or the ongoing investigation.
