Amit Shah to Inaugurate Madhur Dairy’s Automated Milk Plant in Gujarat

Intro
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate a newly built fully automated milk processing and packaging plant of Madhur Dairy in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district on May 17.

Gandhinagar

The new plant has been established at Dashela village by the Gandhinagar District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited. According to officials, the facility has an initial milk processing capacity of 2.5 lakh litres per day, which can later be expanded to 5 lakh litres daily depending on future demand and procurement levels.

With the inauguration of the new facility, Madhur Dairy’s total milk processing and packaging capacity will rise to 5 lakh litres per day, making it the largest cooperative milk union in Gandhinagar district. Officials believe the expansion will play an important role in strengthening the dairy cooperative network and supporting thousands of milk producers connected to the organisation.

Several senior leaders are expected to attend the inauguration programme along with Amit Shah. These include Bhupendra Patel, Shankar Chaudhary, Harsh Sanghavi, Jagdish Vishwakarma and Jitu Vaghani.

Officials stated that the expanded infrastructure will allow Madhur Dairy to process the entire milk procurement from dairy farmers in Gandhinagar district more efficiently. This is expected to benefit farmers by ensuring better and more stable prices for milk supplied to the cooperative.

Consumers are also likely to gain from the expansion through improved availability of quality milk and a wider range of dairy products marketed under the Madhur and Amul brands. The increased production capacity will also support manufacturing requirements for the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, which oversees Amul’s nationwide operations.

Madhur Dairy officials said the cooperative has consistently focused on the welfare of milk producers and the development of the cooperative sector. The dairy has been working to improve the economic conditions of dairy farmers while providing affordable and quality dairy products to consumers.

The cooperative has witnessed remarkable growth since its establishment on February 6, 1971. It began operations with the support of only four milk societies, and average milk procurement at the time stood at just 6,433 litres per day. Over the decades, procurement has increased steadily and currently averages around 2.76 lakh litres per day during the 2025-26 financial year.

Financially, the dairy has also expanded significantly. Starting with an annual turnover of nearly Rs 7 lakh, Madhur Dairy’s business has now grown to an estimated annual turnover of about Rs 628 crore. Officials attributed this growth to continuous infrastructure expansion, quality services, and increasing consumer trust in the cooperative’s products.
