A delegation from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), led by Vice Chancellor S Vidyashankar, visited the Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIIT) and the aerospace MRO facilities of Indamer Aviation as part of an academic-industry collaboration initiative.

During the visit to CIIIT, which was established jointly by Tata Technologies and the Government of Maharashtra, the delegation examined the institution’s industry-oriented education model designed to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-driven learning among students in the Gadchiroli region.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in emerging technology sectors such as artificial intelligence, aerospace and defence technologies, unmanned aerial vehicle systems, smart manufacturing, battery management systems, quantum communication and advanced materials.

The delegation also explored possibilities for joint research projects, faculty development programmes, student internships, innovation centres and industry-integrated skill development initiatives for VTU-affiliated colleges.

Later, the team visited Indamer Aviation’s aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities in Nagpur to gain insights into technical operations in the aviation sector.

Officials highlighted the growing opportunities in India’s aerospace and aviation industries and stressed the importance of hands-on technical training to develop industry-ready professionals.

Speaking during the visit, Dr Vidyashankar underlined the need for stronger cooperation between universities, industries and innovation centres.

“Experiential learning, interdisciplinary research and technology-driven education are essential to preparing future-ready technologists, researchers and entrepreneurs,” he said.

The visit is expected to pave the way for deeper collaboration between academic institutions and industries in advanced technology and aerospace sectors, while creating new opportunities for students pursuing engineering and innovation-focused education in Karnataka.
