Trump strongly criticized Iran’s response to the US proposal, calling it garbage

Hopes for a breakthrough in the Iran conflict weakened sharply on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump declared that the fragile ceasefire with Iran was on life support.
Speaking to reporters, Trump strongly criticized Iran’s response to the US proposal, calling it garbage and saying he did not even finish reading the document. The US president warned that the ceasefire agreement, which began on April 7, now faces serious uncertainty as tensions continue to rise between the two sides. The statement came after Tehran rejected a U.S.-backed proposal aimed at ending months of fighting and instead presented a list of demands that Washington described as unacceptable.
According to officials, the United States had proposed halting military operations first before moving toward negotiations on more complex issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and regional security concerns. However, Tehran insisted on several conditions before agreeing to any long-term settlement.
Iran demanded an end to the conflict across all regional fronts, including the fighting in Lebanon, where Israel continues military operations against the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
Tehran also stressed its sovereignty over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, called for compensation for war-related damage, and demanded an end to the U.S. naval blockade in the region.
The continued standoff has significantly affected global oil markets. Brent crude futures climbed above $104.50 per barrel during early Asian trading on Tuesday as concerns grew over the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Before the conflict erupted on February 28, the narrow waterway handled nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making it one of the world’s most critical energy routes.
The disruption has already forced several oil-producing nations to reduce exports. A Reuters survey released showed that OPEC oil output in April fell to its lowest level in more than two decades due to the ongoing instability in the Gulf region.
Meanwhile, the United States announced fresh sanctions targeting individuals and companies accused of helping Iran transport oil to China. Washington said the measures are intended to cut off funding for Iran’s military and nuclear activities while tightening enforcement against sanctions evasion.
