Mystery over weight of gold in temple gift

KOPPAL

A generous donation to the famous Anjanadri hill temple has sparked a major investigation after a massive confusion over the weight of gold ornaments. Businessman Mahesh Reddy recently donated beautiful gold-plated shields and jewelry worth nearly ₹2.50 crores to the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. However, government experts now claim the gold might be much lighter than promised.

The controversy began when the donor’s team declared that the copper shields were plated with approximately 1,280 grams of gold. But when government goldsmiths and bank experts inspected the items, they gave a shocking report. According to their estimates, the gold used might only weigh between 250 and 300 grams. This huge gap has forced the district administration to step in.

Koppal District Magistrate Dr. Suresh Itnal has ordered a full review of all documents. The donor’s architect, Gundachari Sthapathi, submitted the official bills, invoices, and craft details to the government. Officials will now compare these papers with the physical ornaments to find the truth. The District Collector clarified that the items will only be officially handed over to the temple committee after a legal verification process is complete.

For many devotees, this donation was seen as a symbol of deep faith. The government is now working quickly to resolve the mystery and ensure total transparency. By checking every receipt and certificate, the administration hopes to clear the confusion and protect the integrity of the temple’s treasures.
