INTUC workers in Kasaragod protested against rising cooking gas prices, alleging hardship for labourers and common people.
Kasaragod
Workers and common people are being deceived, alleged INTUC leaders during a protest in Kasaragod against rising cooking gas prices. The demonstration, organized by the Indian National Trade Union Congress Kasaragod district committee, was held in front of the main post office in the city.
District president P.G.Dev, while inaugurating the protest, accused the central government of pushing policies that harm workers and ordinary citizens. He alleged that the economic situation and policy decisions were designed to benefit capitalist interests while burdening the poor.
Protesters raised concerns over the sharp increase in prices of cooking gas and edible oil, stating that several hotels and commercial establishments are on the verge of closure. They also claimed that rising costs are forcing workers to lose jobs, while migrant labourers are leaving the state due to lack of income and employment opportunities.
Speakers further criticized the government for failing to control inflation or take action against black marketing of gas cylinders. They said essential commodities have become unaffordable for common households, severely affecting daily life.
The protest began with a rally through the city, during which participants carried a cooking gas cylinder as a symbolic representation of their demand for relief from price hikes. Leaders including T. V. Kunhiraman, N. Gangadharan, Thomas Sebastian, C. V. Bhavanan, and others addressed the gathering and expressed solidarity with the workers.
The event highlighted growing dissatisfaction among labour groups over rising living costs and economic pressures, with union leaders demanding immediate intervention from the central government to stabilize prices and protect the interests of workers and common citizens.
