Shivamogga
Minister and district in-charge S. Madu Bangarappa launched a sharp attack on former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, questioning the purpose of a proposed “fan festival” in Chitradurga allegedly aimed at strengthening political support for his son following recent electoral setbacks for the BJP in bypolls.
Speaking to reporters, Bangarappa said he respects Yediyurappa’s seniority but questioned his governance record, claiming that he had not implemented major people-centric schemes comparable to those of former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa. He further alleged that the fan event was politically motivated to secure a leadership position for Yediyurappa’s son.
He also criticised the central government over environmental and infrastructure projects, including pumped storage schemes, and reiterated his opposition to the proposed nuclear plant at Besoor. He demanded that forest dwellers in the region be granted land rights before advancing such projects.
On Shivamogga airport, he said it was built with state funds and added that night landing facilities would be ready within two months, addressing concerns over its operations.
