BMTC expands to Channapatna, boosting South Bengaluru connectivity

BENGALURU

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has expanded its services to Channapatna, further strengthening connectivity between South Bengaluru and nearby towns. The new service, launched on Friday, is expected to benefit daily commuters, students and office-goers travelling between Bengaluru and Channapatna.

As part of the expansion, BMTC has deployed 10 air-conditioned (AC) buses on the route. According to officials, the buses will operate at a frequency of one every 30 minutes from morning till evening, ensuring regular and reliable transport services throughout the day.

The initiative comes after BMTC recently extended its operations to Ramanagara and Kanakapura over the past two months. Six buses were introduced for Ramanagara and eight for Kanakapura. Officials said the positive response received from passengers in those regions encouraged the corporation to further extend services to Channapatna.

The new Channapatna service was inaugurated by MLA C. P. Yogeshwar along with officials from the transport department. Authorities said the addition of AC buses would provide commuters with a safer, more comfortable and convenient mode of travel, particularly for those who travel regularly for work, education and business purposes.

BMTC officials stated that the move is part of the corporation’s larger plan to improve regional public transport connectivity and encourage greater use of public transportation. The expanded services are also expected to reduce dependence on private vehicles, thereby helping ease traffic congestion on major roads leading into Bengaluru.

Officials added that improved public transport connectivity could also contribute to reducing vehicular pollution and fuel consumption in the long run. Commuters from South Bengaluru are expected to benefit significantly from the direct and frequent bus services to Channapatna.

The extension of BMTC operations marks another important step in strengthening suburban transport infrastructure and improving accessibility between Bengaluru and surrounding towns.
