Air hostess alleges harassment on Bengaluru-bound flight

BENGALURU

An air hostess on a flight headed to Bengaluru has alleged that a male passenger behaved inappropriately with her during the journey and later attempted to justify the act by calling it a gesture of friendship. The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of airline crew members and passengers during air travel.

According to the complaint, the woman alleged that the passenger touched her waist inappropriately while she was performing her duties onboard. The incident reportedly left her shocked and distressed. What further angered the crew member was the passenger’s alleged attempt to dismiss the act by claiming that it was done in a friendly manner.

Sources said the air hostess immediately informed fellow airline staff about the incident after it occurred. The matter was subsequently brought to the attention of airline authorities for further action.

The case has sparked concern over increasing incidents of harassment in public spaces, including flights, where both passengers and crew members are expected to feel safe and secure. Aviation experts and passenger rights activists have repeatedly stressed the need for stricter enforcement of safety protocols and quicker response mechanisms in cases involving misconduct onboard aircraft.

Crew members, especially cabin staff, often work in confined spaces while handling passengers under stressful conditions, making them vulnerable to harassment and inappropriate behaviour. Experts point out that such incidents can cause emotional distress and create an unsafe work environment for airline employees.

Authorities are expected to examine the complaint and determine further action against the accused passenger. Officials have emphasised that inappropriate behaviour under the guise of friendliness cannot be tolerated and must be dealt with seriously.

The incident also serves as a reminder for passengers to maintain respectful conduct during flights and for airlines to ensure prompt intervention whenever complaints of harassment are reported onboard.
