Two Kalaburagi youths were allegedly trapped in an overseas job scam and forced into cyber fraud in Cambodia.
Kalaburagi
Two youths from Kalaburagi have allegedly fallen victim to an international job scam that led them to a cyber fraud network operating in Cambodia after being promised data entry jobs in Vietnam.
The victims, identified as brothers Syed Sufiyan and Syed Mohij from Taj Nagar’s Filter Bed area, were reportedly lured through a social media advertisement offering data entry jobs in Vietnam with attractive monthly salaries.
According to a complaint filed at Chowk Police Station Kalaburagi, Sufiyan, a B.Com graduate who was working as an Ola driver in Bengaluru, contacted an agent through WhatsApp after seeing a Facebook reel advertising overseas employment opportunities.
The agent, who allegedly introduced himself as Madan Vadivel, conducted a video interview and informed the brothers that they had been selected for jobs abroad. Trusting the offer, they travelled from Kalaburagi via Hyderabad and Kolkata and reached Vietnam on December 9, 2025.
However, the complaint states that after arriving in Vietnam, they were transported across the border into Cambodia and taken to facilities run by a company operating under the name “Trump” in Sihanoukville. Later, they were moved to another Chinese-run setup where they were allegedly forced into cyber fraud activities.
The brothers claimed they were made to operate under fake identities and pressured to participate in online scams despite repeatedly refusing. They said they worked in the setup between December 11, 2025, and January 14, 2026, without success in defrauding anyone.
The situation reportedly changed when joint raids by American and Cambodian authorities led to the escape of several workers. The brothers later reached Phnom Penh and sought help from the Indian Embassy before returning to India on February 3, 2026.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the alleged international trafficking and cybercrime network.
