GADAG
Prof KH Belur said that Basavanna is a great humanist who gave early ideas of democracy and equality. He was speaking at a monthly Shivanubhava program in Gadag where Buddha Basava and Ambedkar jayanthi was celebrated. He said Basavanna’s Kayaka philosophy teaches dignity of work and equality for all people. He added that Basavanna remains a cultural leader not only for Karnataka but for the world. He said Buddha teachings promote peace and non violence and Dr B R Ambedkar provided a strong constitution for India through knowledge and reading. He also said that celebrating great leaders should not be limited to rituals but their ideas must reach students and society.
Former civic leader Shankar Hangal said photo based celebrations are not enough and true respect comes when ideas are practiced in daily life especially among children. Dr Rajendra Gadada said if ideas of Buddha Basava Gandhi and Ambedkar are followed many social problems like violence and inequality would reduce. The program was presided over by Vedamurthy Maheshwar Swami and several writers and devotees participated. A felicitation ceremony was also held during the event. Organizers said the teachings of these leaders remain a guide for future generations and help build a peaceful society. The event concluded with prayers and cultural presentations.
