HANAGAL
In a major relief for landless families, permanent house ownership certificates were distributed to hundreds of beneficiaries in Hanagal taluk on Thursday. MLA Srinivas Mane said the move has freed thousands of poor families who had been living on government and private land for decades without legal ownership.
He spoke after distributing certificates to 492 families at a function held in Kalakeri village. He said many small farmers, labourers, and middle-class families had been living in fear of eviction due to lack of legal documents. In several cases, notices from courts had also created panic among residents, he added.
The MLA said that during the 2023 Dhutsankalpa Yatra, people had raised concerns about housing insecurity and eviction threats. He said a resolution was made at that time to address the issue, and after the formation of the Congress government in the state, steps were taken to fulfil that promise.
He explained that earlier, families faced difficulties such as no compensation during house collapse, no permission to rebuild, and no access to bank loans. With the new ownership certificates, he said these problems have now been resolved and families can live with security and dignity.
Tahsildar Renuka S also spoke at the event.
Certificates were distributed to families from multiple villages including Kalakeri, Kalakeri Tanda, Multhalli, Thavaragoppa, Veerapur, Vasana, Chikkahullala, Kanneshwar, Heroor, and Kusanur.
Several local leaders and public representatives attended the programme and welcomed the initiative, calling it a major step towards providing permanent housing security to rural and economically weaker families in the region.
