Vijayapura Deputy Commissioner Dr. Anand K. visited a three-year-old boy undergoing treatment after being attacked by a stray dog, and directed urgent action to control the growing menace of stray animals in the city.
The incident occurred in Rajkumar Layout of Faverchand Colony under Ward No. 35 of Vijayapura City Corporation limits, where the child, identified as Viraj Santosh Biradar, was bitten by a stray dog on Tuesday. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital by his parents.
During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner enquired about the child’s condition and instructed doctors to ensure the best possible treatment. He said the boy is responding well, has started recovering, and is able to speak, urging the family not to panic. The child is currently receiving anti-rabies vaccination and other necessary medical care, including treatment support from the district hospital.
Officials from the City Corporation also visited the hospital soon after the incident and coordinated response measures. Hospital staff and municipal personnel were present during the DC’s visit.
Vijayapura City Corporation officials have been instructed to take immediate steps to capture stray dogs and relocate them to designated shelters. The DC emphasised that repeated incidents in Rajkumar Layout have raised serious safety concerns, especially for children and elderly residents.
Authorities have been directed to intensify dog-catching drives and implement long-term measures to reduce stray dog populations in vulnerable areas. The administration stated that public safety will be prioritised and necessary preventive steps will be taken to avoid further incidents.
The visit comes amid growing concerns over stray dog attacks in residential neighbourhoods across the city.
